CCSC Higher Education Preparing Tomorrow's Workforce Today

Nearly 320,000 students currently attend 61 accredited colleges and universities in Maryland. Post-graduate education is a particular strength of the Baltimore-Washington region, where opportunities are available for advanced work in nearly all disciplines. In addition, our strategic partners in DE and PA offer educational opportunities via University of Delaware, York College, and West Chester University producing tomorrow's science and technical workforce as well as teachers, technicians and service providers.

Higher education research and capabilities contribute to the region's economic health; Maryland's R & D enterprise now ranks second in the US. Johns Hopkins University generated $1.75 billion in external research support during FY 06; University System of Maryland generates over $1 billion annually in external support.

Cecil College and Harford Community College have signed MOUs with UMBC and Towson respectively to bring baccalaureate degree programs to their campuses near Aberdeen Proving Ground. Increased participation in regional higher education centers including the HEAT Center in Aberdeen, provides supplemental instructional capacity. HEAT's convenient location, just 4 miles from Aberdeen Proving Ground, makes undergraduate, graduate and customized workforce training opportunities from more than 13 colleges and universities easily accessible to the civilian DoD workforce. The CSSC regional education environment provides opportunities to partner with contractors in research activities and participate in technology transfer in advanced research fields. We invite you to learn more about learning in CSSC.
